1953 M38A1 military Jeep - fully restored
This is a 1953 M38A1 military Jeep. It has been fully restored;
every nut, bolt, and part has been removed and restored or
replaced with new old stock or quality after market parts.
Engine (F-Head), transmission (T-90), and transfer have been
overhauled (new speedometer shows 110 miles driven since
overhaul). Brake, fuel, muffler, and coolant systems are new.
All canvas is new. The Carter carburetor is original with a
quality rebuild kit installed. The 24-volt wiring harness is new
from Vintage Wiring of Maine. I installed rear turn signals with
two left taillights so the brake and turn signal lights show up
better. Tires are about 80-90 percent tread; the 5th tire was
hard to balance so it went to spare. The frame was sandblasted,
checked for alignment, treated with POR15, and finished with
Gillespie 23070 (used through the mid-to-late 50's plus I like
the color). The tub was removed, sandblasted, repaired in the
usual places, treated with POR15, and also finished with 23070.
This Jeep is fun to drive, turns heads everywhere, and is a hit
at parades, shows, rallies, etc. The only reason I am selling is
to make room for another project, a 55 M38A1. This is a turnkey,
fully restored military classic. It only has 110 miles since
restoration/engine overhaul; therefore, it will shortly need the
head retorqued, valves readjusted, break-in oil changed, and
probably brakes bled again. I usually put around 300 "break-in"
miles since overhaul before doing the follow-up stuff.
