The son of the owner said the m38 had been sitting in the barn since the late 70's when his dad bought it from the Michigan Forest service. "dad bought it, drove it in and there it sat." When found it the water/pump tank was still in the back.
I have not tried to start it. I cut the plywood hard top off and removed the water tank. The fuel tank bottom was swiss cheese and I bought a used m38 tank from Midwest Military and had it refurbished. I will include the original tank. It was missing the shackles and pins, so I bought them from Midwest Military also. I did put 700-16 military tires on this jeep instead of the mud/snows that were on it. The only rust I found was passenger side rear corner and a small hole about were the passenger would put his foot. Tool box is not rotted out. This is a very solid jeep. The paint appears to be Forest service red, then air force blue, then finally od green. Please call if you have questions.
